If I think about the lifespan of my parents and the possibility that I will only live to 55 too, I am over midlife. I know that's no way to think, but it sure is going to put more life into my years. So 30 is an important milestone. If you consider your 18th birthday the beginning of adulthood there are a few milestones you hit on your way to 30.
20: This is the first decade you celebrate as an adult, but gets ignored because you’re too excited about your 21st.
21: You get to drink. It’s a crazy night filled with debauchery and most people have vomit stories.
25: Car insurance goes down. When you’re a lackey and not making much money at work...it’s a big deal to pay less every month.
30: It’s the first decade you celebrate that isn’t overshadowed. It’s the first time that you think “you’re old.” It’s not the truth, and it has taken me this blogging journey to realize that I’m not going to be old. You get a big birthday party that’s way more adult (in most cases) than your 21st. You’ve hopefully learned from your partying 20s and will have a less chaotic, but just as fun, evening. True, the day after may get harder the older you get, but you learn how to deal. You and your friends will most likely be well into your career by then too, so there are more luxuries you can afford. Then again, life could have thrown a few curve balls your way and you’re paying medical bills and blah blah blah. The 30th Jillapalooza celebration will prove to be an awesome event with activities all week long and Ohio invading Oregon. It'll be a marathon, not a sprint and hopefully I have learned not to overdo things.
I am looking forward to the 40th and wonder how it will outshine my 30th.
