The beginning of Jillapalooza 2011

Julie and Stewy land in Portland Oregon tonight at 6:53 PM Pacific Time. I can’t wait. I am SO excited to see them and show them around Oregon.

Tonight we’re going to take it pretty easy. I’ll be picking them up at the airport 7pm and then we’re going to go to dinner. I found a German restaurant, Der Rheinlander,  near our hotel and feel confident that Julie and Stewy will like it. They have German beer and some local brews as well as tasty German food.  I am going to have me some Potato Pancakes. If they aren't dead tired, I will escort them next door to Laurelwood Public House and Brewery to taste some yummy brew.  I had Laurelwood for the first time last month and fell in love with the Workhorse IPA. Since I can taste these brews anytime, I will be DD for the majority of the trip. I don’t mind, because part of the joy will be ensuring that they have a good time.

The next morning we'll travel to Skamania County Washington for the Bigfoot Bash and Bounty.  First we will have some huckleberry pancakes and then we will hunt bigfoot, or at least plywood likenesses of him/her.   It’ll either be so cheesy that it’s awesome or so cheesy that it’s sad. Either way, it’ll be cheddar and I love cheese. The people watching alone will be excellent. There will be Bigfoot Experts to talk about the creature as well as Open Mic sessions where people can talk about their encounters. That will be pretty hilarious.

I have made a goodie basket for the hotel room that will probably be destroyed the first night.I already had some hazelnuts that I got at the farmers’ market and a bottle of wine from my collection. This morning I went shopping for a few additional items.

To the basket I will be adding the following:
  • Revive Vitamin Water
  • Regular bottled water
  • Oreos
  • Cliff Bars
  • Peanut Butter Crackers
  • 6 Pack of Deschutes Twilight Ale

I bought all of that stuf at 7:30 this morning. I joked with the cashier that a lot of people must buy beer at 7:30am on a weekday morning. He looked at me seriously and said, “We live in a college town. It happens all the time.” Touche my friend. Touche.

I have a Bible Verse Word Find that I am thinking of adding for the car trips to Bend and Astoria. It’ll be fun and help the time pass. I have to remember to bring a cork screw, but do not need to worry about a bottle opener as I have one as a keychain. I’m also going to bring some coozies to keep our beers cold.

Hopefully there will be SOME time to update everyone on the Jillapalooza adventures through the blog. It may be just a line or two, but I will post SOMETHING.
