Astoria

The Goonies was partially filmed in Astoria, OR. This was a must-see on during Julie and Stewy's Pacific Northwest trip.

We got a slow start, but made it to Astoria around 2:30. (We made a small pit stop in Cooterville.) Not being a fan of bridges and getting my directions mixed up, I was severly on edge. I was so on edge that the second trip across the Big Bridge and the smell of fish caused me to have to vom in a dumpster. Julie took over driving after that.

We went to the visitor center to get directions to the House where Goonie scenes were shit as well as learn about some other places to visit. After having a late lunch at Fort George, and not really bring fans of the food or the beers, we made our way to the Goonies House. I need to watch the movie again because I don't really remember what the house looked like in the movie.

I was excited that I could hear Sea Lions barking from below. Once we got our pics of the Goonie House, we went down below to visit with the Sea Lions. They were so cute! There was a bit of drama as a few were fighting, but they eventually calmed down.

We learned from the visitor center that there was a high point in Astoria with an ssinf view of the area. We were game so we traveled up to the Astoria Column. The lady was right. It was a beautiful view. We even climbed the 150 stairs up the column to get an even better view. It was gorgeous and I could have stayed up there all day, but we had more sights to see.

Stewy had never seen the Pacific Ocean before so we traveled down to Seaside so that we could dip our toes into the cool ocean water. I am now becoming a fan of the ocean. I had nevere really cared for salt water until I moved to Oregon. It's pretty awesome. Maybe I'll take up surfing...doubt it, but it's nice to think about.
