New Home

Sorry I've been so lazy and not updating like I had intended.  I've been trying to settle in and get acclimated to my new surroundings.

My apartment is ok.  It doesn't have the personality like my last home in Yellow Springs or the ghetto apartment on Crawford in Mtown.  It provides me with what I need, shelter and a place to sleep.  I can't complain really.  I think I have neighbors, although I have never met them.  The person in unit 1 hasn't made any peep if he/she exists.  Person in unit 3 has a dog, and I have heard it bark.  I think the lady must spend copious amounts of time away from the apartment, or she's quiet and NEVER takes her dog out. No one has been neighborly and have introduced themselves, but I suppose I haven't made any effort to meet anyone either.  I have never lived in a complex, so wouldn't really know if this is the norm.

The town is awesome.  I really love it.  It's small town, but still has a lot of the amenities of a larger town.  I can walk/bike to work if I so choose, but I have been so exhausted that I have not attempted to do so.  I also live on a GIANT hill and that is a bit intimidating when it comes to the biking.  There is a route I could take that has a more gradual incline.  Once I get over being so tired, most likely the MS being pissed about having to adjust to a new life, I will attempt the dreaded hill.

The job is going smoothly.  I enjoy it and the people with whom I work.  There are still some things I need to figure out, but that is expected withe the learning curve.  The job description is getting rearranged to fit my skills.  I'll be doing a lot with the communications office and writing on the blog.  Super excited about that.

I haven't done too much.  I have aspirations to check out a winery, but have been using my weekends to rest and unpack/organize.  Once I get an idea of how I want this place to look, I'll be happier with my home.

I did go to the coast this weekend.  I went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Oregon.  I think it's funny that there is an aquarium in a town called Newport.  So much like home.  Newport, OR is about an hour West of me.  I spent the day at the aquarium and on the coast line.  It's really pretty and I look forward to another trip out there.

There is a rugby team in Eugene, OR, which is an hour south of Corvallis.  I haven't gone to a practice yet, but really need to.  I need to meet some crazy fun ruggers.  I'm missing my Flying Pigs.

Here is the before picture of the apartment.  Once I am satisfied with the organization, I'll post an after pic.

  1. Don't beat yourself up for not being unpacked.

Just think of the things that will help make you feel most at home, and start with those.

For me its ALWAYS my books, my wine opener, and my bubble bath. everything else can wait :)

  2. I'm also from YS and moving to Eugene this fall. Fellow villager told me about your blog and said I should check it out :)I haven't a clue where I'm going to work yet and only have temp housing for the first month so any other Oregonian's I can meet who may have advice or references the better!

  3. Amy, my books, pictures and DVDs were the first thing I unpacked!

Most of my clothes are still in boxes and suitcases though.
