Lots to update: Dysentery, Heat Wave and Rugby

I was really sick last week...like the sickest I have EVER been. Vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue. It was CRAZY. I left work a smidge early on Wednesday and didn't return the rest of the week. Thursday I was dead to the world. I got up when my alarm went off, called work to tell them I had the plague, vomited and then went back to bed. Slept for the duration of the day.

Friday I was determined to go to work as I have no sick days yet. I got up to take a shower, but it took way too much effort. I went back to bed, clean at least. I informed work that I really tried to get ready, but it just didn't work. I went to bed with a wet head.....

That night I heard what I thought was knocking on my door, but thought I was dreaming. I heard it again. So I sat up and was beyond confused. I reached for my phone and noticed it was dead, so I plugged it in. NUMEROUS text messages and voicemails from my friends. They hadn't heard from me in 2 days. No texts, calls, emails or facebook messages. My cousin was worried so she had called the apartment complex to make sure I wasn't dead. I called my cousin back to ensure her that I was in fact alive....but sort of wished I wasn't. There was a knock at the door again. I went to answer and it was a lady from the complex. I assured her I was alive. I went back to my bed when I received a call from my dear friend McWattsey. He was at the Dayton Rugby Monte Carlo night as was my cousin. We had a delightful chat about the lack of flouride in Oregon water. He thinks I should move back to Ohio so that my teeth don't rot out. While still on the phone, there was another knock on the door. This time it was a Corvallis Police officer. Yup...it's good to know people care. Also, I can say I wasn't even in Corvallis a month before the po po was knocking on my door! Score!

Saturday I was feeling better, but stayed in bed watching youtube videos and comedy central stand up routines for most of the day. I had consumed some carrots and apple juice. None of it came back up. It was a small victory.

Sunday I felt MUCH better. I came out of the cave, AKA, my bedroom, and hung out in the living room. I even left the apartment to go get some food. I was craving one of those salads (sans chicken) from Wendy's. They were a big sponsor of the Comedy Central stuff...so my brain was thoroughly washed. (I also want a Twix.) I ate said salad while watching friends re-runs with my patio door ajar. I needed to let in some fresh air and let out the stank of my sickness.

I am still a bit wonky but feel so much better. I can tell I am weak from battling the illness and lack of proper nutrition.

OMG HEAT WAVE! It feels delightful.

Last week there was a warning for a heat advisory to last through Monday. When I checked on Saturday it was supposed to get up to 97 today. I just checked the weather and it said 92 degrees, but feels like 91. I have never seen that before. Living in Humid Ohio, it usually feels warmer than what the thermometer reads. It also tends to feel stickier. Bleh. There is no humidity and it's 92 degrees. I think it feels awesome, but my Oregonian Co-Workers are worried they may melt. I can tell the whole building is concerned because the AC is CRANKED. When I went out for lunch, I was happy to warm up.

I am totally digging this weather. The summers are not dreary like I had imagined. They have been sunny and the temperatures have been comfortable. I hear that it doesn't snow here, but it does rain quite a bit in the winter. I do like snow, but there are places I can go to see it and not get sick of the fluffy whitness.

NEWSFLASH: There is apparently a Corvallis Women's Rugby Team.

I researched rugby back in may when I was debating on taking the job or not. The only team I could find on the interweb was in Portland. I contacted them and they would have LOVED to have me play with them, but suggested I contact Eugene instead as they are slightly closer. Portland is 1.5 hours away and Eugene is just under 1. I hadn't even heard of the Eugene team, so it was nice of the Portland team to suggest them.  They did not show up in any of my queries when looking for a team close to me in Oregon.  So I have been in contact with the Eugene team. I was going to go to training last week before I got the plague.

I did find a men's team in Corvallis, but no contact info to ask them if they had a women's team or would be interested in starting one.  I couldn't even find them on facebook.

Well today, I was on the Eugene Facebook I saw a message on their wall from a woman on the CORVALLIS team.  I was excited.  I wonder why I hadn't heard of them in my search.  It's possible that they are REALLY new.  The other teams may not have thought about them because Portland and Eugene are D2 and I am thinking that Corvallis are D3.  I know the Corvallis men are.  I also think that Eugene did not want me to find out about them because they heard about my skills and wanted me all to themselves.  I don't blame them.  I am what they call, awesome.

From the facebook pictures it looks like the team is VERY young.  I'm not doubting their experience as there are high school rugby teams out here.  I just don't want my friends in Corvallis to be so young.  I'm almost 30. I've also been playing against older women with senior side experience in a D2 league for the past 6 years or so.  It feels like almost a step back.

So I may or may not have a dilemma.  Do I stay with the Corvallis team and play with a bunch of youngins or do I travel and hour 2 times a week to play with girls my own age?  I think I am making assumptions.  I really need to meet the Corvallis team, which I will do on Wednesday.

I'll keep you all posted on my life out here....as long as I don't die of dysentery!!

  2. The kitties are fat and sassy and enjoying life. I think think they are really sad that they can't go outside, but they really can't complain. They are SPOILED!

    <3 your face too.

You and that guy should come for a visit!
