Oregon Country Fair

I heard about the Oregon Country Fair from so many people and was excited to attend.  It combined two of my favorite things, festivals and hippies.  How could I NOT go?  I just missed it by a week last year.

The price of admission seemed a little steep to me, but I paid the $20.  I knew it was going to be interesting.  Eugene is known as the Hippy town here in Eugene.  It’s sort of like a Yellow Springs, but the size of Dayton.  The Oregon Country Fair is in Veneta, OR, which is about 13 miles West of Eugene.  I wore my favorite broomstick skirt and caught a free shuttle in Eugene to take me to the Festival.  Very helpful.  I didn’t have to navigate my way to the festival nor did I have to search and pay for parking.

There were tons of VW Buses in the parking lot.  I was beyond excited to see the psychedelic paintjobs and knew I was in for a treat.  The bus dropped off the passengers and we all entered the fair.

This made me giggle.....

I admit, at first I was a bit overwhelmed.  It was a very large crowd and from what I heard, the Sunday crowd was not as busy as Saturday’s.  I was glad I chose to attend on Sunday.  I didn’t know what to do first or where to go, so I just followed the crowd and weaved my way through.

There was loads of yummy food and beautiful art.  I only brought a limited amount of cash so I wouldn’t spend all my money on food and prints.  That’s what I would do at the Street Fair.

Good eats:
  • Falafel
  • Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cooke (x2)
  • Phoenix Lemonade (I don’t remember what was in it…but it was good.  Peyote maybe.)
Most yummy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie EVER!  I had 2.

Good Art

Performers

I was delighted to meet a very special artist. Emek did the poster for the Country Fair and is also the same man who does artwork for Erykah Badu’s albums.  I believe she and I are connected.  She was in Yellow Springs the first weekend I lived there and now I've met the artist that designs her album artwork.  We are destined to be BFFs.
