4th of July in Oregon

I spent my first 4th of July in Oregon with a friend who lives in Seattle and just happened to be in Eugene, OR for the weekend.  Erica and I have a lot in common.  We both are from Middletown, Ohio and we’ve both played rugby for Miami University and Cincinnati-Dayton.  We had a lot of reminiscing to do!

Erica was visiting her Grandmother from AZ who was staying in Eugene.  She and a friend do this every year apparently to attend a Musical Festival in Eugene, and Erica gets to visit with her Grandmother.  I also get to hang out with Erica!  I did a little research on what to do that evening and remembered that a Reign Teammate, Amber, had volunteered at the Art in the Vineyard festival in Eugene.  I looked that up and found out that they would have fireworks that evening.

It was a GREAT time.  There was wine to taste and fair food to eat!  I love fair food (especially vegetarian fair food) and I love wine! Add in an old friend, and it was the best way to celebrate the birth of our great nation. Erica and I grabbed some ice cream and plopped on the ground to listen to the Portland Cello Project.  I've always wanted to play the cello and after hearing them play the Mario Brothers Theme Song, I want to learn how to play even more.

Yummy Veggie Dog with mustard, sauerkraut and caramelized onions.

To avoid the crowds, we left right before the fireworks went off because we knew we could watch them from the bridge.  We couldn’t go back the way we came in as they closed it down for safety reasons.  We found a nice young man that would escort us a different.  He was a neat kid.  It was a gorgeous scene to watch the fireworks reflecting off of the river.  The moon was bright and beautiful.  It was just a sliver, but still it was a great visual!  Watching the fireworks brought up memories of All American Weekend in Middletown for the both of us.  It was great to have someone to talk to about shared memories!

Fireworks viewed from the bridge.  That speck to the left is the moon just above street lights
