Week three didn’t go as well as the previous weeks.
Class itself is going really well. Today may have been the first class where I wasn’t totally engaged. I don’t really see myself working in business markets. I find the consumer markets more fun. Although, down the road, things could change as I learn more. I actually want to answer all the questions he asks, and 99 times out of 100 I’m right. I just don’t want to be THAT girl! You know. The girl who knows allllll the answers and everyone hates her. I think there would be more participation if the class weren’t so early or if they were more morning people like myself. I’m not REALLY a morning person. I’ve just been conditioned to be awake and ready before 8am unlike my younger classmates.
Tuesday my car wouldn’t start. I most have been in a hurry to get in the house (probably had to race to the bathroom as frequent urination is one of my FAVORITE multiple sclerosis symptoms) and thus didn’t close the door all the way causing the dome light to stay on. Dead battery. I didn’t have time to seek help for a jump so I just hoofed it to Weigand Hall. Luckily I had left early enough that I wouldn’t be too late and I wasn’t. I was only late by 10 minutes and due to technical difficulties, class hadn’t truly
started.
Mamaw passed away earlier this week. Amazing woman. Sadly, I couldn’t go to the funeral, but for a lot of reasons. Through the genius that is modern technology I was able to use skype to attend the funeral. The funeral was at 1, Ohio time and my class wouldn’t be over until 10am which is 1pm Ohio time. I emailed the instructor to tell him that I would be leaving early to attend a funeral, not because I find his lectures boring. I needed to leave in enough time to make sure I had skype set up. Leaving early would cause me to miss out on some participation points and the quiz that is held at the end. Luckily, I know that the bottom two quiz scores are dropped. I would have been fine barring any other problems.
The closer we got to the time I would say I was leaving, 9:15am, the faster it seemed we were going through the material. Now I know we have a test on Tuesday over the first 6 chapters and we had a lot of ground to cover before the end of the class in order to cover all of chapter 6, so I assumed that was why he was going so quickly. It was business markets and buying behavior, so I wasn’t really that interested anyway. We ended right at 9:15, so I decided to stay for the quiz so that I could have all my points. I currently have a 100% in that class and don’t want to lose that so quickly.
When leaving he mentioned that he knew I was leaving early, so he sped up a little. I was very appreciative, but I hope that the speed of the lecture didn’t cause problems for my 120+ classmates. It’s a great example of how students should take the time to talk to their professors and get to know them. Building a positive rapport could be very beneficial. I got to virtually attend my Mamaw’s funeral and not miss a moment of class.
It wasn’t an ideal week, but ended up working out for the best.
Next week: Test #1
