Oregon Halloween

Halloween is the same across the nation...

The Crazy Cat Lady made an appearance at an Oregon Halloween party.  She was well received.

Friday night I went to Eric and Lindsay’s Halloween party:
Ate some food
Drank some of Eric’s delicious homebrew
Played some foosball
Lost at foosball…twice
Was the scorekeeper for an epic game of darts
Told/Heard funny stories
Broke a camera for the second Halloween in a row

Some of the great costumes included:
Duffman
Zombie Waitress
Harry Carey (a la Will Ferrell)
Bearded Lady
Crab head

Saturday I was a bit homesick.  I was really missing the fun time with Dayton Ruggers, so I was kind of mopey all day.  I spent a good portion of the day with Netflix watching scary movies.  I did have a few errands to run, but didn't get to it until late.  While I was out and about, I received a text from Steve-O asking if I would like to join him and Jen at Karaoke.  I don’t sing, but love to people watch, so I agreed to meet them at Harrison’s.

Once I made it to Harrison’s I noticed I was underdressed.  Everyone at Harrison’s was in costume.  It was Halloween weekend of course.  I didn’t even think about dressing up again.  Steve was a Walrus again from the night before and Jen was the E-surance girl.  (Cute costume) As I was walking in, the person up at the mic was singing “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness.  It reminded me of Joel when we all went to Karaoke together.  He always sang that.  The Darkness singer ended up being Steve’s friend Jose who joined us after his song was over.

I sort of wished I would have worn my costume again.  Everyone looked like they were having so much fun.  I really enjoyed the people watching.  My favorite costumes of the night were that of a couple who dressed up like Dexter and one of his victims.  It was really good.  The girl had a nude colored shirt on and had saran wrap around her.  She even had the cut on her cheek from when Dexter collects the blood.

I was asked over and over again by the crew to sing…but I don’t.  If Brandy can’t get me to sing the millions of times I have been to The Speakeasy on Karaoke night, I doubt these people can.  I did contemplate doing Lip Gloss by Lil Mama.  That would have been fun….and it’s not really singing.  No one was really singing though.  It's karaoke with drunk people, so it was mostly inaudible screaming.  Jose did well though and I remember Steve doing the Banana Boat Song (Day-0).  It was a good Halloween song as I always associate it with Beetlejuice.

I left around midnight and went home.  It was quite the feat.  I had not drank anything at the bar, so it was ok to drive home….or at least I thought.  Harrison's is on Harrison Street, easy to remember.  The street is a couple of blocks north of campus, so of course it's always littered with students.  It was the straightest route to my place though.  I was dodging college students in costume the entire length of Harrison Street.  I enjoyed seeing all the youngsters dressed up ready for a night of fun.  However, there were many girls in slutty outfits…catholic school girls, policewomen and even a nun were dressed way too revealing for a chilly rainy night.  I have a feeling that the alcohol warmed them up enough.  I felt pretty old at that moment.  I was leaving for the evening when these kids were probably just starting theirs, AND I was being an old crotchety woman complaining about the skankiness of kids today.  (I may or may not have been a catholic school girl for Halloween before, but that was year's ago....as in maybe 2 years ago.)

After making it home without hitting any naughty nurses, I wanted to end my evening by watching a scary movie.  I turned to Netflix instant que for a frightful film.  I decided on Paranormal Activity, but found it more boring than scary.  Having not been scared by the movie, I slept very well.

Sundays are no longer my favorite day.  No longer is it a lazy day of snuggling kitties and watching football.  It’s a day of profanities and heartache.  Thanks a lot Bengals.

I have NO idea when trick or treat was.  I think it was on Sunday, but I saw no little goblins at my door.  I heard that no one really trick or treats in my apartment complex anyway.  So sad.  It was always my favorite to see little munchkins begging for candy.  I really haven’t been able to experience the fun since I moved out of my parents’ house six years ago.  No trick or treators at the Crawford Apartment. I never had any in Yellow Springs as it wouldn’t have been safe for the kiddos to walk down the dark scary lane.  Now, costumed chids just don’t come to Witham Hill Apartments.  Can’t say I really blame them.

Halloween is a big holiday for craziness with friends, and I really miss my Ohio crew.  Up next we have Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas and will miss not being able to go to my cousin Marion’s for Thanksgiving dinner.  I don’t think I’ll miss Christmas as much, as I just don’t really care for the craziness that happens.
